Lumes by Nichole Goff

from $12.00

LUMES

Paperback book with photos, coated interior, 87 pages

Lumes contains poetry evocative of the desert sky & the land with moments of tender inflection & inherited violence in memory. With photos displaying the boneyards of Tucson planes, it speaks to the wasteland that is the desert, war, & sometimes, home.

“I am suddenly aware of the soft parts of me… (from Lumes)”

Remembered Landscapes

Soy Wax Candle by Marvel + Moon

Comes in a 4oz. tin.

This wholly poetic wax object of the sand lands—this burning candle—emits notes of Agave, Hot Sand, Patchouli, & Wild Desert Plants & Flowers. Inspired by “remembered landscapes” of LUMES, this fragrance is a sweetness among the jet fuel, a glowing light in the dust, & the scorching hilt of the poet’s sword. It is home among the wastelands. Light this candle as you take LUMES in your hands & wander with the poet as you “sniff out how something can so fill an open space its invisibility cloaked over the dusty crowns of our heads.”

SCENT NOTES: Sweet Agave. Aloe. Patchouli. Hot Sand. Chrysanthemum. Amber. Prickly Pear Cactus.

ADORNMENTS: Marigold & Chaparral.

[NEW MOON] Broadside

8.5X11” broadside printed on cardstock, featuring Nichole’s poem, New Moon, designed by Tucker Jameson. This broadside includes a cardboard backing in a protective cellophane sleeve.

”In Nichole Goff’s Lumes, you’ll find critical commentary on nationalism; gorgeous wordplay of structure and line; moments of tenderness that turn ominous; and beautiful descriptions of the saguaro-filled desert. At some point you realize that you are wrapped up in a weave of Goff’s making: part American flag, part baby skin, part light. The woman’s body becomes a gun; a tool designed to give life, now a tool that takes it away. Do not enter this book lightly. It will shape the way you look up at the sky.”

-Kristen E. Nelson, author of THE LENGTH OF THIS GAP

“Along, above, within… a home in the desert. That marble-eye gleam of that “Welcome home, honey” portrait corroded by the shadow of the Blue Angels streaming jet fuel across the frame. We have to make this conversation happen. LIFE magazine doesn’t want you to see this and LIFE magazine doesn’t want to read her letter. If you catch one in the kitchen—one cockroach—then you know there are ten million. The uncountable and unaccountable loss incorporated as a given into the net invisibility of Google's earth, the sheer impossibility of reckoning a history of halos and ghosts and melon ballers, the defenselessness of the Protestant nightmare and the state of defense. This baby blanket smells like Carmex and creosote. That uniformed someone’s joining us again tonight. She recoils. At the bottom of the cereal box is a tooth, or a rock, or a shoe. Or the code of this book which has already landed on Mars.”

-Valerie Hsiung, Author of YOU & ME FOREVER
